get $5 per day in georgia for commuting

A state program is promoting “green” options for people to travel to work — and commuters can earn green in the process.

As a way to ease traffic around the state’s busy roadways during rush hour, an initiative called Georgia Commute Options is offering commuters the chance to earn $5 a day to find new and sustainable ways to work. That could mean carpooling if you’re a solo driver. It could also mean bicycling to work if it’s feasible.

For drivers commuting through the Atlanta area, the program is a godsend given the current Interstate 85 repair, which has strained already-heavy traffic routes.

“Clean” commuters can earn up to $150 and be eligible for a $25 Visa gift card, which is drawn monthly, the program says on its website.

To get the money rolling, users have to download the GAcommuter app and log their commutes.

Participants must change the way they go to work and reside in a 20-county region around Atlanta to be eligible. The counties are: Barrow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Newton, Paulding, Pike, Rockdale, Spalding and Walton.

Additionally, the program guarantees a ride home from your work place in the case of emergency or unexpected event. “Up to 5 free rides home or to your car, by taxi or rental car,” the program’s website says.

The program features an alternative work consulting initiative as well as partnerships for businesses.
