The city’s annual Dreidel and Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at a new location this year.
The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Newtown Park, and will feature Santa Claus, his reindeer and other festivities celebrating the start of the 2016 holiday season.
You can also expect to hear Christmas carols by elementary school choruses, the lighting of the 30-foot tree and Dreidel on the Park Place event lawn at the park.
Old St. Nick will also hear youngsters’ wish lists. Free hot chocolate, s’mores and hot dogs will be available while they last.
There will be crafts, music, and kids’ activities, including trackless train rides. The celebration concludes at 8:30 p.m.
Guests are invited to sign the giant holiday cards designed by Johns Creek fifth-graders, which will be given to military personnel at the three Georgia veterans hospitals. The cards will be available for signing at the tree lighting and City Hall through the first week of December.
The city is also collecting new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots, so be sure to bring one to the event or to City Hall. Donations are being accepted through mid-December.
Newtown Park is located at 3150 Old Alabama Road.
